Cain and Abel are still fighting; Abel needs to get it right....

Dear Thoughtful,

When you think about all the trouble in the world, you may wonder how peace can possibly come about. Well, the biblical story of Cain and Abel can provide us with some clues as to the origin of many conflicts and insights into their resolve.

In short, a lot of people (Cain) do not feel that they are loved equally and justly by God, and that they are oppressed in the end by those (Abel) that are loved preferentially by God.

Unfortunately, these sentiments are grounded in some reality. This is a concern not only for common people like you and me, but for God just as well. A key to the resolve may be found with Abel.

While marginalized Cain is struggling all over the world, established Abel needs to let go and genuinely share the blessings to help restore Cain's trust and friendship.

I am working Project Volunteer, Inc. (http://www.projectvolunteer.org) in Alameda County to practice this basic idea. I pray every day to God to show me ways to reach out and make a difference.

Your generous donations will contribute to building the foundations for peace in our local communities. Project Volunteer (PV) offers capacity-building services to other nonprofits. Your support will help PV assist other nonprofits to accomplish their important missions and reach their goals.
